In 1987, Mathias studied architecture at the University of Düsseldorf before starting his photography career. He has developed a highly recommended reputation since the very beginning of his work in 1998. After a short period working as a fashion and portrait photographer, Mathias found himself working in the car scene again, he had left some time before. Manufacturers were looking for fresh ideas. It was this need for something fresh that helped Mathias develop his photography. His first advertising campaign was for Mercedes Benz soon followed by BMW. He is one of the rare photographers who always achieves a look of inspiration as well as profession in his commercial work. Views that are fresh and groundbreaking at the same time also explain the long list of clients he has gained over the years. Even so he is able to create a perfect balance between his time spend on commissions and his personal projects. The results of this newest personal project will be shown in an exhibition in 2009 to be announced soon. Amongst all the most interesting aspect of his work is the fact, that you always have the feeling to look at a photograph and not an illustration.
