Moa Bartling's grandmother was a potter, one of her grandfathers a weaver and the other a master house-painter. Her parents met on Konstfack's art teacher training course in the 1960s. Perhaps it wasn't so surprising then that Moa inhereted a large dollop of the family's artistic talent. ''My heritage and encouragement from my family has meant a lot to me,'' she says. ''Also the lack of things to do in my village as a youth meant that my siblings and I spent a lot of our childhood in our rooms drawing''. Moa grew up on a farm in Södermanland, surrounded by fields as far as the eye could see. A future life in the big city was enticing, so when she was accepted at the Beckman School of Design in 1999, she moved to Stockholm. In her creative process, Moa works quickly and efficiently and always tries to give her ideas a little twist. She works predominantly with paint and brush and likes using wet in wet and dry brush techniques. She finds inspiration in fashion photography, television, film, art, textiles, ceramics - and friends. ''We love to discuss recent sources of inspiration at our dinner parties!''
