The Dutch-Turkish photographer Ahmet Polat was born in 1978 in Roosendaal, a small city in southern Netherlands. Since studying photography at St. Joost Academy in Breda, Holland, Polat has exhibited, lectured, and published prolifically.
Polat's mother is Dutch and his father is Turkish. After a few years of traveling, he moved to Turkey to explore his heritage through photography. His book Gurbetci was the result of fieldwork documenting Turkish immigrants from Holland, Germany, and France in their villages.
