About the Barbican - A world-class arts and learning organisation, the Barbican pushes the boundaries of all major art forms including dance, film, music, theatre and visual arts.

The Barbican exists to serve its wide and diverse audiences - engaging with arts lovers through our unique and inspiring artistic events at the Centre and using our Creative learning programme and free events to introduce new audiences to great arts experiences.

Our Vision is world-class arts and learning, collaborating with our partners to:

Over 1.77 million people pass through our doors every year, plus a further 300,000 at offsite events across London, alongside hundreds of artists and performers from across the globe featuring in our artistic programme and more than 300 staff working onsite. In 2012 we helped celebrate the Olympic year with many of our projects forming part of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival.

Our architecturally renowned centre opened in 1982 (2012 was our 30th anniversary) and comprises the Barbican Hall, the Barbican Theatre, the Pit, Cinema One, the newly opened Cinemas Two & Three in Beech Street, Barbican Art Gallery, a second gallery The Curve, foyers and public spaces, a library, Lakeside Terrace, a glasshouse conservatory, conference facilities and three restaurants.

The City of London Corporation is the owner, founder and principal funder of the Barbican Centre.

Barbican International Enterprises - Working with the Art Gallery and global partners, Barbican International Enterprises develop and tour a dynamic mix of groundbreaking contemporary art and popular culture, architecture, design, fashion and photography exhibitions.

Residents and Associates - The Barbican is home to Resident Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra; Associate Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra; Associate Ensembles the Academy of Ancient Music and Britten Sinfonia, and Associate Producer Serious.

Our Artistic Associates include Boy Blue Entertainment, Cheek by Jowl and Michael Clark Company and our International Associates are Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam,New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
