The British photographer (*1965 in Dorset) first rose to fame with his portrait of a woman reading a possession order in front of a window. His inspiration was Jan Vermeer’s ‘Woman Holding a Balance’ from the 17th century. Just like the original piece by Vermeer, this was a commentary on working class people and their depiction, achieved through composition, colour and light effects.
