Anni Leppälä : dream-like still lifes - in Chapter IV at TAIK Gallery, Berlin

Once again, the TAIK Berlin Gallery presents an exciting student of the infamous Helsinki School. This time, we have the pleasure of entertaining Anni Leppälä. The photographer was voted Young Artist of the Year 2010 in Finland and is amongst the most promising artists of the Helsinki School.

Her choice of medium makes it possible for the photographer to create sudden intersections between the visible reality of objects and the fictional, emotional meaning behind it. It is as if she would grab an hourglass and balance it gently in a horizontal position in the midway of time. Time stands still. Just like in her pictures. Yet, the odd grain of sand keeps rippling down the hill, like fragments of a story. Tacit but not dead, just like her pictures.

Anni Leppälä is just under 30, but has already had works exhibited in Oslo, Helsinki, Tokyo, Paris, Wolfsburg, London and Milan. Her last solo exhibition took place in the Finnish Tampere Art Museum and resulted in the publication of her first book.
