Camille Seaman's The Last Iceberg - the transient beauty of the polar giants

Whenever an iceberg melts, all that remains is water and the faint memory of a colossus, shimmering dimly. Photographer Camille Seaman accompanies some of the Arctic Sea's gentle giants and tells of their perishability using images, which bristle with the force of nature. In her book ‘The Last Iceberg’, she illustrates how diverse this phenomenon can be.

Nick Cave once sang “All things move toward their end”. Icebergs seem to only do this, somehow resembling humans' individuality. They were created under peculiar circumstances, formed by the environment, living their very own little lives. Some travel on for years to come, while others shatter in the face of callous rocks. Some collapse in sheer and utter passion.

The photographer takes on a very personal approach to the icebergs. She refers to family portraits as an analogy for her work. She searches for the moment in the iceberg's life, in which it exposes itself, revealing its nature for the photographer to capture. She wants to hold onto their souls.

Camille Seaman studied photography in New York and has already been published in Newsweek, Outside, Zeit Wissen, Men's Journal and many others. She shares her experiences in her blog, titled ‘Crazy with Camille’.

The picture book “The Last Iceberg” is also available as a signed copy!
