Clemens Ascher - The Vision Arcadia. Images of colonised nature at Edition Photo Gallery, Vienna

Arcadia, or poetry’s interpretation of paradise, is known as a vision of a grand idyllic place, in harmony with untouched nature. In his first solo exhibition Clemens ASCHER pictures this human utopia.

The photographs he created in 2012 show classic motifs of the Golden Age, which he turns inside out by integrating the modern advertising aesthetic: idyll, a harmonious relationship with paradisiacal nature – in modern consumer society.

There are also pictures of our constructed environment; Clemens Ascher presents a sober vision of the bizarre and surreal results of colonised nature. His work deals with and questions the constantly evolving relationship between people and their environment

The exhibition of the landscape, people and transportation photographer opens on the 25th of September at 7pm at EDITION PHOTO in Vienna and will be on until the 1st of October. You can have a look at his commercial commissioned work through his agent Claudia Bitzer.

Georg Leutner and Anouk Shad’s gallery is dedicated to contemporary Austrian photography and looking at their diverse editions provides a really good overview of the artistic photography scene.
