Corinna Holthusen : presents 'Voluptios Valentine', a solo exhibition at GGGalery, London

Photographer and digital media artist Corinna HOLTHUSEN presents her solo exhibition 'Voluptuous Valentine' with images form her red series at the GGGalery, 15b Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill, W11 2EE, London. The opening night is Monday, the 13th of February 2012. Don’t fret if you can’t make it, enjoy the preview here on GoSee.

In her red cycle of large format portraits and body imagery, Corinna Holthusen continues her critical reflection on the reality of visual human depiction and its incarnations in photography. She transfers them into digital data and modifies them even further through an elaborate process on the computer, overlapping and combining them with other data, creating new fictional and confusing pictures.

The photographer comments “The audience can expect wonderful faces dipped in red with intense and passionate eyes, sculpted female nudes, suggesting seduction, sultriness and sensuality, albeit sporting a questionable corporeality, because it is conspicuously unreal. Even the portraits of young people irritate through their perfect facial features disturbed by real or digital distortions”.

Corinna Holthusen's medium is digital photography montage. The pictures she uses in her work are created either in large format, with medium format cameras or digitally. She challenges our habitual visual perception patterns as she plays with stylistic means of traditional portraits. Her pictures urge us to critically evaluate the omnipresent photographic depictions of perfection and beauty that surround us.

Corinna Holthusen lives in Hamburg. Her freelance works have won multiple awards and are exhibited all over the world.
