Galerie Alex Daniels - Reflex Amsterdam presents Alla Esipovich with "No Comments"

Alla Esipovich knows of the world's merits. She had the pleasure of seeing many of them in front of her camera. This is why she is increasingly interested in the people, who dwell far from the usual ideals and illusions. Hence, she created the series of portraits that is “No Comment”. Pictures, that tell of reality.

The photographer, who is represented by new GoSee member Raffy Locher management, deals with people hailing from various backgrounds, circus artists and professors, engineers or seafarers.

The current series emerged from the subjects’ familial environment in St. Petersburg and is, first and foremost, of a non-voyeuristic nature. Alla Esipovich sees herself as more of a medium, between the viewer and the mortality of being. Many of her subjects are therefore elderly people and elderly people undressing, proud and without any display of inhibition.

Among the most impressive characters is midget and German student Aleksej Ingelevich and a group of women in their favourite clothes, surrounded by their loved ones. All the pictures share what is typically Russian: the harsh and austere with a Soviet touch. Ever so often, through the artist's deferent approach, we are granted an insight into these peoples' intimate moments.
