GoSee recommends Performance Art in Tokyo - Yoko Honaga is dance, music and all the fun of a dressing-up box

Yoko Honaga embodies the definition of the creative multi-talent. She dances, paints, creates dresses up and devotes herself to musical experiments.

Her art of performance combines all of the above; her gigs are like a sensitive frisson of motion, emotion and aesthetics.

For one particular project, she wears a furry grey monster on her back, whose head appears to be eating her’s - it looks as if they have merged together into a new creature.

A similarity with Japanese anime does come to mind, but then this is probably too simple. Yoko Honaga is Japanese, but grappled with the subject of Russian avant-garde during her time as a student.

She isn’t like the kitschy extremes of Tokyo's Harajuku quarter, yet the extent of her expression is of equal decadent measure.

Yoko’s website features the current dates of her performances. Anyone lucky enough to be in Tokyo at the moment should not miss out on her quirky eccentric performances.

Our tip: On 24 October 2010, she will give a fashion & dance performance at M, an event space & bar in Tokyo
