Sperone Westwater Galerie : Malcom Morley's first solo exhibition since 2006
The Sperone Westwater Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Malcolm Morley in their gallery in New York. It's the first gallery show of new work since the artist’s retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami in 2006.
On view will be four paintings, four works on paper, and one large-scale sculpture, all completed between 2007 and 2009. Inspired by motocross and NASCAR racing scenes, these new works demonstrate Morley’s ongoing status as a master of fine art who continues to explore a relationship between the mediums of painting, watercolour and sculpture.
Malcolm is fascinated by what he refers to as “spectacles”. This is due to the experiences he recalls as a child in London during WWII. The Nascar racers are his modern heroes, the stuff that legends are made of. The sense of danger, the proximity of death, …. definitely an aphrodisiac for medial focused masses.
