We are now. And yesterday and tomorrow? - 'One Step Forward, Two Steps Back' poses questions at Skuc Gallery in Ljubljana

How can we understand the present? Could we live without a past? How would the future turn out? In the upcoming group exhibition at the Škuc Gallery in Slovenia, artists are concerned with the here and now in relation to time, the past and tomorrow.

We witness unsettling flaws of important moments, split seconds that can hardly be reproduced and are more often than not hard to forgot. ‘One Step Forward, Two Steps Back”’ presents someone else’s entrancing consciousness.

Performances, videos, photographs and installations enable the visitor to experience how female artists from various countries take a closer look at the present, imitate, reanimate and reinvent it. Sometimes, time takes the form of a spiral in which all moments exist at the same time. It is in this very second when the sense of it all hits you with the utmost intensity, ripe with wisdom.

The exhibition accompanies the ‘City of Women 2010’ international festival of contemporary arts in Ljubljana. Artists include: Yvonne De Rosa, Vesna Miličević, Maflohé Passedouet, Katarina Mootich, Miya Masaoka, Kira O'Reilly, Oreet Ashery and Judith Witteman.

The three-week event is promises a packed programme, which is not to be missed: sound performances, discussions, panel talks and open air happenings. Click here for more information.

Maybe the only thing we really do have is the present. Maybe we should all let go and exist and maybe a trip to Ljubljana will bring us closer to the answers.
