Cologne Contemporaries - laid back creative after hour party of the young Cologne art event at Marsil

Be it Artnet or Die Welt – the press has united and their voice calls for a change: Cologne wakes up!

For a long time, Berlin was considered the mecca of the art and creative scene. But the latest closure of established and partially only recently opened galleries in the capital marked the end of the hype.

Maybe the rest of Germany has a chance to reinvent itself now? Munich is more popular than ever, Hamburg is as cool as it always has been. And the Rhine-Main area? Museums are popping up like mushrooms, the end of one fair sees the opening of another, flagships of all the biggest brands open up in Cologne and Düsseldorf.

The art scene is younger than it has ever been and there seems to be space even in the smallest of galleries. The 20 million people live in North Rhine-Westphalia, including quite a few collectors, who have not left their mansions and houses all of a sudden to move to the desperately tragic-hip Prenzlauer Berg area in Berlin.

All good things are more than three. In its third run, Cologne Contemporaries alone resulted in many happy faces amongst the rows of young gallerists and artists in cologne.
