Fully Booked : exhibition with spatial installations and appetising experimental accompanying programme - vive la crunch

In its heyday, when Bonn was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Hotel Beethoven in Bonn accommodated high flying guests from politics and culture.

And not as pompous as Berlin presents itself to the sensation seeking public – no, pragmatic frugalness paired with 50s charm and a bit of good old Rhineland nature garnish on the side.

Now that its demolition is looming, the Fully Booked exhibition has taken up residence in the hotel. The relic from a foregone decade has been celebrated over the past few weeks with 50 variations on the transformation of space and an experimental accompanying programme.

Since August, various dance, theatre, film events, concerts and readings have taken place in the hotel’s former bar and kitchen. The highlight of the HB - Hotel Beethoven project is the exhibition in the 56 rooms and penthouse.

On its opening on 14 November, artist Götz Bury will turn the hotel kitchen into a stage for his cookery performance. The Hamburg artist presents “live well without nothing” – a quick course on art and how to survive without money.

With DIY sets for kitchen utensils and recipes, the representation of an oven with a tin can, as well as sawdust bread and grass soup, various techniques on surviving the credit crunch are at hand. Including free sampling.

Fully Booked is organised by Sjaak Beemsterboer and Christine Rühmann of ML Moving Locations e.V. The platform for the exchange of artists from various disciplines is always on the look out for temporary spaces, which then become the central themes. The projects are aimed at contemporary fine art.
