Galerie In Focus, Köln : Bruce Davidson - Photographs
The in focus Galerie, Köln presents *Photographs* an overview of Bruce Davidsons most important photographs, taken from his *Der Zwerg / Circus - 1958', *England 1960*, *Black Americans 1962/65* and *Cafeteria 1976* series.
The exhibition places particular emphasis on the Brooklyn Gang, 1958 and East 100 th Street 1966/68 series. Bruce Davidson is fond of an array of different types of people; his typical motifs are of the disadvantaged, the suppressed, the injured and how they proudly endure their situations. The photographers work opens doors to worlds which the viewer would not usually be invited, such as his series on a circus clown, a Brooklyn street gang, African-Americans between 1962 and 1965 and *East 100 th Street*. These worlds are made accessible through Bruce Davidsons talent for finding acceptance, yet remaining a scarcely relevant factor in the situations which he constructs and captures.
Bruce Davidson has already photographed for magazines including Vogue, Life, Realite, Du and Esquire. He has been a member of the Magnum photography agency since 1958. His photographs have already been presented to a wide public both through countless books and exhibitions. The Museum of Modern Art in New York already dedicated a whole solo exhibition to his East 100th Street photo series, which was declared to be the most important photographic series at the turn of the decade by DU magazine in 1969. His latest exhibitions in Madrid at the Photo Espana and in Paris at the Foundation Cartier Bresson prove that his work is still popular and relevant today.
