Getty Images in Cannes : Advertising Activism & Young Lions Competition

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival took place from 15 – 21 June 2008, for the 55th time. On Thursday 19 June, Getty Images are hosting a seminar that deals with the subject of Advertising Activism. Famous advertising and culture activists such as Sam Roddick, daughter of activist Anita Roddick or Ted Royer, Executive Creative Director of Droga5. They will reveal how businesses can apply the rules of activism to advertising, how to motivate their customers to act yet also win them over when it comes to selling products.

*Advertising is no longer restricted to the conventional media rules. You have to find out how to become an activist – how to encourage and provoke action*, commented Lewis Blackwell, Creative Advisor at Getty Images and leader of the seminar. An outdoor exhibition in front of the Palais Des Festival reflects this subject and presents images which push boundaries.

It is the eleventh successive year that Getty Images are supporting the Young Lions Competition – this year in the print, cyber and media categories. The most talented members of the creative newcomers team are challenged to develop a prize-winning campaign with the support of Getty Images’ creative, editorial and archive material.

All participants receive a brief the evening before the beginning of the competition and work hard around the clock to create a prize winning result. The client is a renowned charitable organisation, which will be announced at the beginning of the competition.

For the third time, Getty Images, in partnership with MassiveMusic will host the hottest party to hit Cannes Lions Festival. Over 2,200 creatives from all over the world will gather at Noga Beach on 18 June, 2008 for the party. Find out more at www.massivewednesday.com.
