GoSee Tip : London has mapped out the future! Future Map presents the most promising graduate work in the art scene

Future Map is an annual exhibition that maps the future skies of London’s great creative stars in the making. The show, which celebrates its 13th anniversary this year, presents a best of work by alumni from University of the Arts London graduate and postgraduate courses.

This year’s winners were selected from almost 10,000 graduating students from the University of the Arts Colleges, which is made up of the following six renowned colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Art.

Future Map 10 is hosted at the Zabludowicz Collection space in North London. Housed in a former Methodist Chapel, the non-profit organisation shares Future Map’s passion for providing a platform for the city’s emerging talents.

GoSee joined the crowds on the private view opening night and listened up for the announcement of the Future Map 10 prize winner. The expert panel, comprising 20 Hoxton Square Projects founder Alexander Dellal, Associate Director of International Programmes for the Emirates Sharjah Art Foundation, Judith Greer, Grazia Style Director Paula Reed and Time Out London Visual Arts Editor Ossian Ward selected the 28 Future Map 10 exhibitors representing 17 different courses from across this year’s graduate and postgraduate shows. Courses range from Fine Art to Fashion. Josh Baum’s ‘Instrument for observing water bounce’ was presented with the £3,000 award and opportunity to make a commercial edition for the Zabludowicz Collection.

We followed the map of the future across the ethereal white church/cube space and have attached a selection of our favourite pieces. These include the intertwining courtship dance of the two hairdryers to surreal vintage tunes – ‘Sway’ an installation by Lucia Rivero. Futuristic fur coats by fashion graduate Eliana Dimitrakopoulou, Sofie Alsbo’s animation video, Linda Toigo’s tactile experience book, Joanna Cooper’s macabre jewellery and Dari Bae’s wonderful ‘Chandelier: Hair Filament’ – whose individual glass bottles are filled with locks of different people’s hair. Janina Lange’s interactive sculpture series kept some curious guests busy, whose performance contribution was rewarded with secret video screenings inside the sculpture – we like!

These are however just a few pieces that caught our fancy, the other pieces are also worth seeing.

If you didn’t make it to the opening private view, why not join Future Map for its late night closing event on Friday 4 February, 18.00 – 21.00.
