K20, Düsseldorf : Hiroshi Sugimoto exhibition

The impressive photographic series by Hiroshi Sugimoto (*1948 in Tokyo) are currently being exhibited at the *K20* Museum in Düsseldorf. Over the past 30 years the artists has explored the traditions of the Far East, particularly those of historic Japan as well as the contemporary Western world. His work is greatly influenced by the revolutionary works of Marcel Duchamp and the American Minimal and Concept art movements.

The catalogue which accompanies the exhibition is published as an art book by Hatje Cantz Verlag. The Hiroshi Sugimoto Monograph collects selected works of the photographer's various series, including his portraits of wax figures, extremely over exposed theatre photos with glowing white cinema screens as well as his dioramas – photos of scientific display cases, which allow the viewer to journey to the past and observe Neanderthals or creatures that were extinct millions years of ago.
