Burberry Prorsum: 3D events and live stream take off from rainy London

What better way to set the mood for the classic British label’s London Fashion Week catwalk show than with the quintessential island accessory – a shower of rain. Most of the guests dressed up wisely in belted trench coats and braved the downpour.

Once you had waved your special engraved golden ticket at the gates, a bit like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you were ushered in under the protective shelter of a classic black English umbrella, with Burberry check detail, raised high and proud by security. What more could you ask for?

Inside the purpose built show space the showers continued, with a dramatic rain soundtrack and projection to set the scene for the arriving guests of the Autumn/Winter 2010-11 ready to wear presentation.

The show was packed with over 1,000 guests yet still retained a luxurious air of glamorous exclusivity and spaciousness. Celebrity Bailey-admirers that graced the front row included Kate Hudson, Kristen Stewart, Mary Kate Olsen, Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Philip Green and Twiggy.

It was streamed in 2D on the Burberry website, consequently enabling over 100 million viewers to see the latest collection and broadcast in 3D to simultaneous private events in Paris, New York, Tokyo and Los Angeles. This was a first for any company and the 3D glasses were probably the most stylish ever to be worn in history.

The collection was titled ‘The Burberry Cadet Girls’ and suitably explored the relationship the brand has had with military and aviation garments. Coveted outerwear items included cropped aviator jackets, aviator trench coats, military style pea coats and thick oversized sheepskin coats. This sturdy apparel was teamed with more delicate textures layered underneath, such as lace leggings and plisse pencil skirts, which were in turn accessorised with elongating stretch python cavalry over knee boots.

One thing’s for certain, the aviator jacket is going to be a must have for every fashion follower’s wardrobe this autumn/winter. And if you can’t wait that long, then no fear, womenswear items from the show can still be exclusively ordered online until 26 February.
