GoSee Tip : the MINE fairytale collection by Katherine Pont - inspired by the short story 'Repent Harlequin! said the ticktockman'

Tick Tock. Tick Tock. Miaow, miaow, dance harlequin, dance. You’re so playful, you little avant-garde thing you. Look up and inside yourself and you’ll find the harlequin. Catch the magic and you catch the harlequin.

The latest collection by London-based label MINE is a piece of showmanship, meticulously glamorous and has more depth than its lavender coloured pompoms.

Writer Harlan Ellison and his out-of-this-world stories inspired Katherine. Harlan was born of short stature in Cleveland and as the son of a Jewish family didn’t always have an easy time growing up in his neighbourhood.

He published his first Science Fiction fanzine at an early age, before running away from home aged 13 and joining a minstrel show. He began writing in 1955.

Designer Katherine Pont was particularly inspired by the science fiction short story ‘Repent Harlequin! said the ticktockman’, which Harlan Ellison published in 1960. She has integrated the many details and thoughts covered in the story in her collection, and has also added a handful of fairytales and magic in her dresses, capes and her illustration patterns which adorn the label’s colourful fabrics.

She combines her love of fashion with that of illustration and weaves both influences into a poetic mixture. The MINE look doesn’t call for demanding attention – it is full of attention to detail and dotted with loving surprises.

Katherine Pont was born in Sydney and graduated in Painting and Illustration at the College of Fine Arts. She has lived in London for over nine years and has been designing for her own independent label since 2006.

MINE is stocked by selected boutiques worldwide and was a Women’s Ready-to-Wear finalist at the New Yorker Gen Art Awards in March 2009.
