Amiens la cathédrale en couleurs

When the wonders come to light

Amiens, la cathédrale en couleurs - when colours revive the wonders of the world

In the Middle Ages, the gates, the carved religious saints and decorative elements of the Notre Dame d’Amiens Cathedral were covered in bright and lively colours. Over time, rain and dust washed off all traces of colour from the stone, leaving nothing but matt grey behind.

However, today’s technology enables the colourful spectacle to be brought back to life. Colourful light is shone onto the facade with great precision, restoring the space to its former glory, covered in bountiful detail. A unique and wonderful insight of the lost aesthetics of the Middle Ages.

Skertzò created the magical and sadly transient colouration. And this wasn’t the creative thinker’s first act of transformation. A vast array of historical buildings and castles has already been redesigned by the Parisian agency into fantastical dreamscapes, or reunited with their old ‘new’ look.

The ‘new façade’ of Amiens Cathedral can still be viewed at selected times. And a trip to the North of France for ‘La cathédrale en couleurs’ is certainly worth it. It is located on the route from Paris to Calais.

In addition to this, GoSee Film presents just why this 800-year old building is such a must-see.
