'Die Vierte Macht' tells the story of journalist Paul Jensen, who on journey of self-discovery in Moscow becomes the victim of national intrigues in Russia. The thriller paints an exciting and politically explosive picture of today’s Moscow, where inscrutable power structures, extreme lifestyles and political activism clash.

Mortiz Bleibtreu plays the leadin role ('Soul Kitchen', 'The Baader Meinhof Komplex'). Other German actors in the film are Max Riemelt (‘The Wave’) and Stipe Erceg 'The Baader Meinhof Komplex'), as well as several international actors such as Rade Serbedzija (‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II’, ‘Thick as Thieves’) and Kasia Smutniak (‘From Paris with Love’).

Stricken with a personal crisis, Berlin-based journalist Paul Jensen (Moritz Bleibtreu) moves to Moscow, where he is supposed to initiate a change of guard at a Russian gossip magazine by his mentor Alexej Onjegin (Rade Serbedzija). Thanks to rumours surrounding Russia’s rich and beautiful, the paper quickly catches an upward wave. All seems to fall into place and his life resembles more or less a non-stop party at this point. Then he meets the gorgeous Katja (Kasia Smutniak) – and all is lost.

Paul only has eyes for this mysterious Russian lady, who convinces him to publish a politically motivated obituary in his magazine. An action with consequences. Immediately, the events in Paul's life begin to unravel at light-year-speed. He witnesses the death of the love of his life in a bombing, is accused of aiding and abetting to terrorism and ends up in one of the infamous Russian prisons. Hell on earth.

When Onjegin can finally force an extradition, Paul believes to be safe again. Yet, he underestimated his true enemy. Paul finds himself on the run, alone in the middle of the merciless Russian metropolis. He soon discovers that he has to face his own past in order to unravel the political conspiracy. Not much time is left, as his pursuers are close on his heels. A race against time commences . . .

DIE VIERTE MACHT is a cinema production by UFA Cinema. The producers are Nina Maag, Thomas Peter Friedl and Nico Hofmann and was produced in co-production with SevenPictures for ProSieben.
