GoSee MINI QUEST : Servullo Mendez, Make-up Artist and current winner of the ‘Make-Up’ Award at the German advertising awards Reklamefilmpreis 2012, says thank you on GoSee

Make-up Artist Servullo MENDEZ started his career around 20 years ago in Paris for clients such as Marie Claire, Glamour and Elle. Following stops in Madrid, New York and London, he moved to hip Berlin, where he has been living and working since 2003. This year he is one of the happy winners of the first German advertising awards Reklamefilmpreis 2012 to be presented in the ‘Best Make-Up’ category. Here is a short exclusive interview on GoSee with the super hot award winner.

Congratulations on the award, how does it feel to be a winner?
Thank you. I feel very honoured and am very pleased to have won, especially since it is not very often than one receives an award as a make-up artist.

How did you end up becoming a make-up artist?
As a little kid I was already playing around with the women’s make-up at home, it was obvious I was going to do something with make-up later on.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from all sorts of people on the street and personalities.

Who has inspired you and your work the most?
The list is way too long to put up here. I would say that after 20 years in the business I get it from everyone – from Meisel to Madonna.

What do you like most about your job?
Mainly the freedom to explore and experiment with your creativity and of course the travelling, as well as the interesting people you meet by doing so.

What was your best and worst experience working?
After 20 years there have of course been a lot of great and not so great productions. One of the most inspiring experiences was with Vera Lehndorff alias Veruschka for an art performance during the Berlin Biennale this year, which dealt with the theme of beauty, perfection and imperfection.

Which three products are essential for a Make-Up Artist?
That’s easy – primer, powder and rouge.

What is THE make-up trend of 2013?
The 2012 look ☺

What question would you like to answer, or what have you always wanted to get off your chest?
... be happy, be pretty .
