Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel: Helmhaus Zurich presents ‘Grünes Rauschen’ (green noise) and other interdisciplinary explorations by Swiss artists

Helmhaus Zurich shows contemporary art, mainly by Swiss artists or artists who live in Switzerland. The current group exhibition ‘after the game is before the game’ brings together eleven artists – and one artist collective called PARK – from different scenes and various age groups. The result is a deliberate clash of artistic attitudes and approaches.

Anna-Maria Bauer greets us with her colossal letter case – and gives us an insight into her immense, almost private material archive. We were impressed by her elaborate ode to the documentation of collection

The beautiful spatial sound installation ‘green noise’ by artist collective PARK is located on the second floor. Bird twittering and chainsaw noises alternate and invite you to contribute your own music. PARK is made up of Dominique Rust, Clarissa Herbst, Mario Marchisella and Michael Wolf. We met the four creatives and captured them on film for you in front of their colourful installation.

And just around the corner artist David Siepert uses censorship in a positive way in his work. For his ‘Censored Dresses’ project he took fashion adverts that were censored for a Muslim context (don’t show cleavage or knees) as a starting point for some creations that can be used globally. He stitched, sewed and knitted black censoring elements onto couture – making them integral components of the dresses.

We also enjoyed Mark Divo’s merchandising tsunami. He imagines Zurich not only ‘Ten Years After’ but even further into the future on china plates and various items of merchandise.

Asia Andrzejka Naveen on the other hand explores the societal and legal aspects of different marriage rituals by getting married over and over again – ‘after marriage is before marriage’ so to speak.

The ‘after the game is before the game’ exhibition continues until 27.1.2013 at the very centrally located Helmhaus a.k.a Wasserkirche – with a quirky café bar and a beautiful view of the Limmat.
