Regielounge 38 - if this doesn't turn out great, then I'll turn into an ugly pig !
Luciano Urbani flying in specially from South America, JJ Kieth in the house, Codmo Quintero on the mic - how can that be possible? Oh, right, at the Regielounge in Düsseldorf of course.
Besides these three top directors, highlights from this growing direction and creation industry event included directors Rob Kaplan, Cyrill Boss & Philipp Stennert, Thorsten Kirves and Jonas Arnby.
Steffen Gentis hosted the evening event in his usual gentleman-like manner, cleverly supported by ever improving technology – live stream via camera projected onto giant screens.
This time round the internet guest via Skype was the Everynone creative team – as in Will Hoffman, Daniel Mercadante, Julius Metoyer III, based in New York and L.A. – three charming young lads, who were ready for a round of Q&A.
GoSee presents a selection of spots by Peter Harton*, Luciano Urbani** and JJ Keith***, whose McCAIN spot inspired our headline for this article. Watch the spot in the ADDITIONAL WORK section on his website – and no the model didn’t have a clue about the script! ;-) !!
The next Director’s Lounge will take place in February 2011. We are already looking forward to it!

**Luciano Urbani started directing commercials in 2008. His first works (Peugeot Invisible and Silence, Unicenter Rain, Claro Guinea Pig) immediately surprised the industry with their maturity and cinematographic strength. He has studied Graphic Design at the University of Buenos Aires, Art History at the Buenos Aires Fine Arts Museum and Acting with the Awarded Argentinean actor Julio Chavez. While he developed his interests in painting and post production design, he worked in advertising as the assistant director of the most important directors in Argentina for many years. Now he is 32 years old, and is quickly becoming one of the most important directors in Latin America. In 2009 he was nominated for the Young Directors Award in Cannes.
***JJ launched his career in the world of film after graduating from Edinburgh University with an MA in film studies. He directed three shorts, all of which were highly acclaimed on the festival circuit and subsequently broadcasted. JJ's second short 'Holiday Romance' was nominated for an Oscar (Live Action Short) and went on to win 'Best Short Film' at the Hollywood Film Festival. Following a stint in TV drama, JJ turned his attention to commercials. Before long JJ's ability to combine the sensitivities of a visual style with a lightness of performance meant he was directing spots for many clients including Gossard, Boots, Heinz, Mars, Sainsbury's and BT. JJ was highlighted as „Director to watch“ by boards magazine in 2004. Having directed several spots for 118 118, JJ's Honda 'Cog Spoof' picked up a number of awards from golds at creative circle and the BTAA to a Silver at Cannes and a Bronze at „The One Show“. Respectively his work for Guinness extra cold has also been celebrated at creative circle, the BTA and the APA50. JJ has created a style that is distinct yet versatile, showing a flare for both the visual approach and subtly observed performance and comedy.
