Looking for alternatives in the Rhine country? Andernach am Rhein! The Andernach geyser (formally knows as Namedyer Spudel) is the world's highest cold-water geyser measuring 50 to 60 metres.

Ever since 2006, it has been an attraction in the Vulkanpark as well as part of the national Geopark Vulkanland Eifel. A boat connects Andernach and the Namedyer Werth, where the Geyser can be seen in action.

The duration of its eruption amounts to exactly eight legendary minutes with a natural interval of 100 minutes in between eruptions. Carbonic dioxide gas is what drives the geyser, just like a shaken bottle of sparkling water.

However, hot water geysers like the ones in Iceland spill piping hot water mixed with steam. The ground water in the earth is heated up by the magma and pushed upwards through a pipe – so, stay away people!
