GoSee Tip : Bea Szenfeld's collection is 'Haute Paper' and art - and we just love what Björk loves!

Björk has a talent for spotting talent. Only recently, she sang at Lee McQueen's commemoration service, wrapped in angelic robes of the fashion world’s late enfant terrible. Shortly prior to this, she received the renowned Polar Music Prize, dressed in ‘Haute Paper’, by upcoming Swedish designer Bea Szenfeld.

But who is Bea Szenfeld? She was born Beata in 1972, lives and works in Sweden, but has Polish roots. She graduated from Beckmans College of Design in 2002 and won the H&M Design Award. Her CV is dottted with names such as Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger and Hello Kitty. She enjoys the company of people and never bails out on a good party – as we have the pleasure to report from our own experience.

She christened her current collection ‘Sur la Plage’ and created it solely from paper. It is already her third and the most experimental of her collections. She was inspired by the ocean, the waves, the mythic folklore of the Nordic seafarer – the outfits remind us of an enraptured underwater world of the 1930s.

Are her clothes wearable? No, says she. Washable? No. Strangely exquisite? Yes! And yet there are brave beauties, such as Björk, who wear the pieces because they reflect their very own sentiments. A piece of art.
