Poster Competition Unesco City of Design, Berlin and the new FREISTIL Black Issue

Berlin is the "UNESCO City of Design". Hence Create Berlin have initiated the city’s largest poster competition and joined forces with a host of international designers to search for the metropolis’ visual “code”. Over 1,000 poster spots will be provided all over the city.

Designers from all backgrounds and disciplines are invited to enter this free competition. Graphic designers, fashion designers, photographers and product designers are challenged to hand in their view of Berlin’s history of design in a poster format, billboard or even as a three dimensional window in subway stations.

This is how the most elaborate show of Berlin’s visual “code” will come about at the end of August 2009. Everything is allowed, surprises are welcome and discoveries are a must. Multi-disciplinary, fantastical and unbridled, are just a few keywords.

The panel of judges covering the Graphics, Fashion, Product Design and Advertising industries, will select the pieces which will then be created as one offs by the designers and displayed. The top 20 will be selected and they will then go on a trip to the other  “UNESCO Cities of Design“. The final 3 will then be awarded with even more attractive main prizes. Raban Ruddigkeit corporate ideas developed the name, logo and foundation design for the competition. A poster and online campaign launches at the beginning of June.

FREISTIL is also by Raban, it is the “Biennale of European Commercial Illustration in a book format“. The latest edition once again demonstrates the sheer variety and development of illustration culture. The publisher only accepted black and white entries for the fourth edition. The black issue, printed in 4c and extra black, plus varnish, draws attention to the crafty qualities of European illustration.
