Gunda Patzke : LIAO YIWU - portrait of the Geschwister Scholl 2012 Award winner for SPIEGEL, plus HOW TO SPEND IT editorial, SMALL YOUR CAR for VW and jewellery
Dieter MAYR photographed LIAO YIWU, better known as Lao Wei for SPIEGEL magazine. Liao is a Chinese poet and regime critic and his works are – of course – banned in China. He was detained for four years for the distribution of his poem 'Massacre' about the violent oppression of the democracy movement on Tiananmen Square. He is the 32nd winner of the Geschwister Scholl-Award.
In July 2011, the German edition of his 'My Testimonials' book was finally released, after it had been in the making for quite some time now. The book tells of his time in jail. It is a drastic and up-front tale of brutality and the absurdity of random governmental repression. With the book, Liao wants to give a voice to all the oppressed people of China.
Karel KUEHNE photographed a jewellery-watch-fashion editorial for the 'How to Spend it' luxury magazine supplement of the Financial Times. Karel was joined on set by stylist GARBER c/o BIGOUDI, hair and make-up artist Gabrielle THEURER c/o BASICS, How to Spend it editor Kristine Bilkau and How to Spend it photo editor Carina Weirauch.
Grand opening! The SMALL YOUR CAR GARAGE from Volkswagen opened last week. It is Germany’s first workshop to make cars smaller. Exactly why three mechanics were inspired to make large cars smaller and how they go about tackling this challenge will be revealed in Gunda's new tab 'SMALL YOURCAR'. Olaf DEHARDE was commissioned by Grabarz & Partner to photograph the Facebook campaign; the AD was Jasmin Remmers.
Cormac HANELY created a black series for a jewellery client, more information to follow soon on GoSee.
