Cologne-based food photographer Klaus Arras shot his second cookbook for the Matthaes Verlag, together with star chef Hans Horberth from the 'La Vision' in the Cologne Wasserturm building.

The cookbook presents 'Culinary contrasts' - a dance of opposites unfolding across 300 pages. Chapters like land-sea, black-white, sweet-salty or hot-cold see culinary creations being created in a way they have never been served before.

Hence, you can find such recipes as meagre/banana, salmon/chocolate, duck liver/rosehip or deer/coffee, but also some more or less known recipes like mackerel/home-made, toast/Hawaii or pear/Helene. But those merely share the name with the famous recipes and the actual dimensions of taste are all new and exciting.

The absolute temptation – the olive ice cream/fleur de sel; white chocolate ice-cream lollies, sprinkled with glazed olives and fleur de sel. Resistance is futile.

The food photographs of the dishes are distinguished by a stringent objectivity that is reduced to the quintessential by means of clearly thought out visual cut-outs. The recipe pictures are completed by shots of the kitchen and the ingredients' detail and macro-photographs.

The cookbook will be launched at the Frankfurt book fair and is only available in book stores.
