Peter Hamel : Wadden Sea World Heritage Site - DDC award for 'Good Design'

Peter HAMEL’s landscape photographs have once again been met with great acclaim. This weekend, he was awarded the 'Good Design' bronze award in the Film/Photography category at the DDC-Competition for his aerial photographs of the Wadden Sea.

The competition jury for the new Lürzers 200 Best also picked his aerial photographs as well as a landscape impression for two double-pages.

In summer 2009, UNESCO announced that the Wadden Sea would become a World Heritage Site. For Peter, this was a more than welcome occasion to capture the breathtaking beauty of the Wadden Sea in pictures, published by the VERLAG FÜR LICHTBILDER.

Peter Hamel boarded a Cessna and explored the Baltic Sea from a bird's eye perspective and shows us a landscape that was formed by wind, water and waves in a way we have rarely experienced it thus far: pictures that looked almost Caribbean, banks of sand and shells, tideways, sweeping tidal waves and drifting ice floes that gleam in the glistening sun.

If you think the Wadden Sea is monotonous and boring, you are bound to be enlightened. Peter comments: “It was like a rapture, when we circled the Baltic Sea with our small Cessna and were lost for words in the face of nature's beauty. We could not get enough of nature's picturesque unfolding in front of our astonished eyes.”
