NEW : Karsten Thormaehlen, people & stills photographer; for STERN, LUFTHANSA WORLDSHOP, BMW, ZWIESEL 1872, SYMRISE, JENAER GLAS, PORSCHE DESIGN
Karsten Thormaehlen is a new entry at GoSee. The photographer studied Philosophy, History of Art and Communication Design in Mainz and Wiesbaden. From 1993 to 2002, he worked as an Art and Creative Director in New York, Paris and Berlin, where he developed advertising campaigns almost exclusively for luxury brands with photographers including Peter Lindbergh, Jim Rakete and Fabrizio Ferri.
In addition to this, he has worked with countless renowned ‘models’ such as Heidi Klum, Emma Heming, Diane Krüger, Charles Schumann, Nick Bollettieri, Alan Parker, Isabella Rossellini, Djimon Hounsou and Rudi Assauer.
Since 2003, he has worked on a freelance basis with his own studio in Frankfurt am Main and has already gained recognition for his book and art catalogue publications, which he has worked on as an editor, author and designer. His clients currently include BMW, BOSCH, COMMERZREAL, LUFTHANSA WORLDSHOP, MESSE FRANKFURT and ZWIESEL KRISTALLGLAS.
His ‘Jahrhundertmensch’ (Century Human) exhibition opens at Frankfurt’s Haus am Dom on 25 June. It presents over 30 portraits of men and women who have already celebrated their 100th birthday. LINDA Frohriep c/o NINA KLEIN took care of the protagonists’ hair and make-up for the project.

The exhibition is accompanied by a book that includes award winning essays.
Karsten photographed portraits of four women for the cover story of the 19/2010 STERN ‘50 Jahre Pille’ (50 years of the pill) issue. The sitters included former German Minister for Family Affairs Renate Schmidt. Styling: Steff Wilkenloh.
He photographed cover motifs for the latest LUFTHANSA World Shop Summer 2010 Ctalogue and the World Cup special. The agency was Wunderman with AD Anette Pein and CD Cornel Frey.
He photographed the complete ZWIESEL crystal glass 2010/2011 catalogue, which is aimed at the international top class catering market. Joe Stockinger was in charge of the styling.
Charles Schuhmann presented his first own glasses collection at the Ambiente 2010 trade fair. Agency: Werbewelt.
Martin Baudrexel and Tim Raue cooked for JENAER GLAS, for whom Karsten also realised all catalogues. Daniel Petry carried out the food styling and the agency was Valuecom.
Karsten and a photographer team, complied by Studio55, ran a show photo studio for BMW at the Genf Auto Show, in keeping with the latest ‘happiness…’ campaign by Germany’s most popular car makers (source: ADC). Agency: Interbrand, CD Tilman Fuchs.
The PORSCHE DESIGN series was realised in Frankfurt with Kemper Kommunikation and STERNENFÄNGER in production. Brigitte Wilhelm came up with the styling.
Karsten photographed the new Leica camera in a fresh orange for Russian VOGUE. Studio55 headed the production.
A whole series of campaign images was realised in Munich for BOSCH. The designer domestic goods sparkled in black and white. DDB Berlin was in charge, as well as the Hauk advertising agency, the STERNENFÄNGER producers were also on board once more.
Karsten realised images in Holzminden for SYMRISE AG, fragrance and flavouring manufacturer.
