Hatje Cantz : The horse in contemporary art

You don’t have to be a horse freak to appreciate these elegant animals. Apart from teenager reading and Wendy comics the horse still plays a big role in art every ones in a while. The art-publishing house HATJE CANTZ now released a handy coffee table book: The horse in contemporary art. The examples are from the 60ies till now; the spectrum covers performances of living horses, photographs, films, drawings and abstract installations of harnesses. You can see Anri Sala’s surreal images of a white horse on a metal pole, Alexandra Vogt’s photos about a relationship between a horses and a women and the melancholy images of horses on police duty by Charlotte Dumas. Some of the artists presented are Stephan Balkenhol, Joseph Beuys, Daniele Buetti, Enzo Cucchi, Charlotte Dumas, Joerg Immendorf, Esko Maennikkoe, Richard Prince, Anri Sala, Andreas Slominski and Georg Winter.
