Magic Mountain Production - spring in Cape Town at last, which also means : 'time for the annual BEE Training' !

Spring in Cape Town – time for the annual BEE Training! This year, Magic Mountain made it possible for 10 young men with 'difficult' backgrounds to take part in a crash course for their first steps into the world of photography and film. This is the eighth time the short course took place. Photographer Jürgen Hinterleitner from Germany supported Sabina and her team.

This is Sabina's brief description of the event: “We set off with a day of theory: Mark, Madoda and I gave the trainees the rundown of the different aspects of production, and Jürgen rounded the lesson up by some insights about photography. Afterwards we took the group around the city to show them important prop houses and equipment companies.

As in previous years the theme of the test shoot was scenes from Richard Wagner operas. Monday morning dawned with a picture of goddess Fricka and the trainees learned the do’s and don’ts when shooting at a private house. The afternoon was spent on Camps Bay beach where they realized that sometimes you have to get wet so the equipment doesn’t...

Tuesday morning started with some high altitude camera mounting in front of the magnificent Cape Town stadium. Mark used the ample parking space to have each trainee take him for a ride and practise their driving skills. A quick lunch and then the team was off to the Cape Royale Hotel across the street, where we transformed a suite into a furniture showroom for the next shot.

The final day was still fully packed and started with some set building exercise. Everybody had to give a hand to create the backdrop for the final picture: a padded cell. Afterwards it was the trainees turn to be in front of the camera for the final pictures. Followed by a quick written test of what they had learned over the 4 days and then everybody was off to enjoy a farewell beer together.

Magic Mountain wishes all our trainees well and hopes to see them on sets all over Cape Town very soon!"
