Corbis : sportswomen with a science fiction-look

Just in time for the Olympics, Corbis are celebrating sportswomen with futuristic pictures. In addition to the science fiction inspired pictures by celebrity photographer Jason Joyce, there is also a variety of photos of legendary athletes and sporting stars, as well as action shots of worldwide famous sport events, all available at the Corbis Sport microsite www.corbis.com/Sport.

Joyce’s new pictures show female fencers, swimmers, archers, weightlifters, footballers and other sportswomen in conceptual, futuristic settings. The pictures were retouched to the highest of standards, giving them a clear, dynamic and somewhat surreal look.

Corbis Art Director Martin Yates developed and managed the concept and storyboard for the shoot in London. The retouch was carried out by Corbis, and a 3D-designer created the background using the very latest in 3D-imaging software.

“Our research teams constantly discover a large and growing interest in pictures of women in sport, and this new collection celebrates sportswomen in an entirely unique and fascinating way”, says Martin Yates, Art Director, Corbis.

Jason Joyce lives and works in London. He started his career as a fashion photographer and switched to celebrity portraits later on. His work has been published by Interview, Esquire, Harpers Bazaar and Q.
