GWM : 'African Arenas' photo book by Thomas Hoeffgen - GoSee is giving away a free signed copy

The countdown is ticking. In just a few weeks the time would have come. Football live from Africa! ‘African Arenas’ Thomas HOEFFGEN’s first book project presents a visual taster, published by HatjeCantz and just in time for the world Cup too.

The viewer immediately senses the sheer enthusiasm and passion with which football is played in Africa. New York-based German photographer Thomas Hoeffgen felt exactly the same way when he travelled to Nigeria for a football story in 1999. The subject has been close to him ever since and over the past few years he has captured images of players and viewers in Nigeria, Namibia, Botswana, Sambia, Malawi and South Africa.

His images present improvised sandbag pitches with two bits of wood to make a goal and urban concrete arenas with floodlights and stands.

A book presentation and exhibition opening will take place on 29.04.2010 at the Auswärtiges Amt, Berlin. A selection of the motifs will be on show until 2 June, before they will then be presented at the Künstlerhaus in KunstKulturQuartier Nürnberg.
