ProfiFoto : Canon Award photo book and competition plus an overview of the new iPhone and iPad app here on GoSee

The Canon professional Photography support award, established in 2007, is widely regarded as one of the most renowned newcomer awards in the field of professional photography and has served as a launch pad for countless talents.

Blurb published the 430 page strong picture book 'Canon ProfiFoto Förderpreis 07/1 – 10/2', which features an overview of all forty works which have been awarded to date. The opulent picture book can be ordered at cost price here.

The iPhone app on the other hand is free of charge. It features all of the competition's winning pictures. The app, which was developed in collaboration with MagBooks makes it possible to virtually browse through the individual contestant's entries at your fingertips on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is available to download from the Apple iTunes store.

The current call for entries for the Canon ProfiFoto newcomer award 11/1 will run until the 10th of January 2011. The twist: the award doesn’t seek to honour finished works but hopeful concepts that are yet to be realised.

Applications can be submitted on www.profifoto.de. The requirements are project concepts that are both meaningful and arouse curiosity.

Multimedia, interactive, informative and available for free at iTunes: the brand new ProfiFoto iPad App, by Germany's leading magazine for all things professional photography. The interactive multimedia contents are a compilation of a multitude of topics from recent print issues as well as an elaborate range of bonus material such as videos.

The pilot project offers a preview of upcoming ProfiFoto apps, they will be released on a regular basis and will offer much more than printed issues. The app makes full use of the possibilities of interactive and multimedia presentation of editorial content.

The ProfiFoto app is not just the simple, digital version of the print issue in PDF format, but also the sophisticated collage of relevant topics, which are completely redesigned and catered towards the context of multimedia and compliment the video and bonus material.

The future will see the release of a ProfiFoto digital 'best of' four times a year, however this will be charged.

ProfiFoto co-publisher and editor-in-chief Thomas Gerwers: “Apple's iPad revolutionises the media landscape and offers completely new possibilities of conveying information. Especially its capabilities in picture reproduction make the iPad particularly interesting to professional photographers. That is why the ProfiFoto app can build on a broad and established iPad base within its readership from the very beginning.”

Of course, a digital publication parallel to the print issues of ProfiFoto would very well be within the realms of possibility, but this depends on the extent to which the pilot project is accepted. The range of available content will be extended with the increasing improvement of technical advances. ProfiFoto subscribers will be able to access the app as part of their subscription.
