She is one of the handful of stars that Germany has produced: Veruschka, Germany's first supermodel. Her name is renowned and respected around the globe, many have seen her face and her body as well. But her story? A few might know it by now…

Despite her eyes gazing at us from thousands of fashion pictures, little was known about the beautiful woman of blue blood. Now, she sits down with Jörn Jacob Rohwer and reveals her life story for the first time.

Vera Gottliebe Anna, Countess of Lehndorff, born in Eastern Prussia in 1939, recalls her early childhood at Steinort Castle in Masuren as well as her father Heinrich, Count of Lehndorff who was executed for being a resistance fighter in 1944, taking part in the conspiracy against Adolf Hitler on the 20th of July 1944. She remembers her mother, who was deported to a concentration camp and how she was dragged off to a children's camp by the Gestapo.

The gorgeous woman, 183 cm tall, tells of her wild and glamorous times as Germany’s first super model in New York and Paris during the sixties and seventies. But also, of the dark mountains she had to overcome in the fashion and art scene.

One hundred photographs, some of which unreleased and all from her private estate, complete the comprehensive volume. It tells the unusual story of an icon, who remains an unknown stranger in her home country to this day.
