Art Lawyer : PHOTO RIGHTS: NESTLE

The infringement of photo rights has proved expensive for Swiss food company NESTLE. A court in Los Angeles ordered the company to pay a total of 15.6 million Dollar to nursery school teacher Russell Christoff, whose face was used on Nestlé coffee jars without his permission- reported the Los Angeles Times. In 1986 a photographer took shots on behalf of Nestlé and paid the teacher 250 Dollar. Without him knowing and without his consent, the picture was used between 1997 and 2003. The coffee jar labels showing his face were sold in the USA, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Israel and Kuwait ....
