Nike and Lance Armstrong present STAGES and LIVESTRONG - the exhibition
Nike and Lance Armstrong have teamed up to organise an exhibition of contemporary art, to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and its global Livestrong campaign, which is dedicated to the fight against cancer.
The STAGES exhibition was opened on 16 July at the Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery during the Tour de France, which Lance Armstrong took part in once again, and celebrated his comeback with.
The participating artists were Cai Guo-Qiang, Rosson Crow, Jules de Balincourt, Dzine, Shepard Fairey, Andreas Gursky, Kaws, Geoff McFetridge, Yoshitomo Nara, Catherine Opie, José Parlà, Raymond Pettibon, Lari Pittman, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Tom Sachs, Kenny Scharf, Eric White, Christopher Wool, Aaron Young, JR. Each of them created original works of art inspired by Lance Armstrong and his mission to raise awareness of cancer.
The Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery was impressed by the number of art fans, media, special guests and artists that attended the private view, all of whom demonstrated their solidarity for a good cause : the fight against cancer. GoSee presents photos of the event and the art on show.
All proceeds will directly be donated to LIVESTRONG. After Paris, the exhibition will then travel to the States, where it will be on show in New York until 2 October. Those that are short-changed for art, or just aren’t into all that modern malarkey, can also participate in the fight against cancer. Lance’s website offers a whole array of charitable goodies in his SHOP – bracelets which have been worn by none other than Bruce Willis himself.
The latest bike to carry Lance over the hills and faraway, also happens to have been explicitly artistically and technically tuned by Damien Hirst, Kaws and Marc Newson. Unfortunately, we aren’t sure when this will be on the market.
