Roba Press Media Agency : join Axel and Judith Milberg and the Umckaloabo Foundation's charity work in South Africa
This week, the Roba Press media agency presents Tatort detective Axel Milberg and his wife Judith in South Africa.
Roba Press and photographer Jorinde Gersina were permitted to accompany Axel and his wife on their venture to the Umckaloabo foundation in November 2010.
The foundation's primary goal is to support upbringing and education, youth welfare, development collaborations, as well as national and employment education – with a focus on projects in South Africa.
For this project, they cooperated with partners such as the 'Nangu Thina e.V' institution, which engages in projects concerned with youth work and an improvement of the relationship between Europe and countries in South Africa.
Axel Milberg and art historian Judith Milberg, are both members of the charity's board of trustees.
The son of a doctor and a lawyer from Kiel, Axel completed his drama education in the late 70s at the Otto-Falckenberg-School in Munich.
He gained recognition in 2003 through the role of the Stahlnetz – and subsequent Tatort detective Klaus Borowski. Axel Milberg solves criminal cases in his hometown of Kiel – an important aspect to him.
And now for some background information on the charity’s unpronounceable name: the umckaloabo is a Cape region geranium and traditional medicinal plant, which has been used is South Africa for centuries.
The plant was introduced to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. Over one hundred years later, its specific efficacy mechanism was revealed, enabling German scientists to develop Umckaloabo medicine.
It blocks the propagation of bacteria and reinforces the viral defence. Since the Cape Region geranium only grows in South Africa, the charity has chosen to distribute its resources on a local basis.
