On Letting Go is a project that I’ve been envisioning for well over 12 months. Ever since my good buddy located this rare, 1981 Lotus S3 (1 of 800) I’ve never been able to view it in a way other than kicking up dust in the desert. In my eyes, the folded polygon designed by Giugiaro represents the epitome of the 80’s and with that, I wanted to create a series that would suspend the viewer — capturing a moment in time while providing an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, as if we’re viewing stills from a classic, Italian getaway film. Through meticulous sun path and color studies in this exact location over the past 12 months, we banked on a small window and a nimble “production” to create this series through a mixture of digital and 35mm film.
