ART GoSee Book Tip : JBE Books publishes three books with raw photographs by Lina Scheynius – in a limited edition including a signed print

20.12.2023 • Intimacy – in all its depth and truth; too raw for social networks, finds its place in three new books, with the distinctive signature of Lina Scheynius. Following publication of the boxed edition containing her first 11 photographic autobiographies in 2019, Lina Scheynius returns to JBE Books to publish the books in individual volumes: Opuses 12, 13 and 14 of the My Photo Books collection. These books are an invitation to witness the everyday, but also to encounter and transcend many formal constraints.

With sincere honesty and an informal naturalness, Lina Scheynius captures scenes from her everyday life. In a revealing, voyeuristic approach, she documents intimate moments, private relationships or even herself. The result is a unique, deeply personal visual diary symbolizing the zeitgeist of our time, whisking viewers away and into the artist’s intimate space. The refreshing sexual subtext and the explicit yet gracious nudity of her imagery challenges conventional theories on the passive and objectified role of women.

ART ‘This Is the Time’ – a photographic experiment in 21 chapters by Danish artist Absalon Kirkeby, appearing at Kehrer Publishing

13.12.2023 • This Is Doubt, Neglecting Death, This Is Magic, This Is the Garden … are a few of the names of the 21 chapters in ‘This Is the Time’, each divided into fourteen images, describing life stages and emotions vis-à-vis the spiritual and material aspects of human existence.

Absalon Kirkeby’s photography is like an engine, intensifying and experimenting with the connection between the photographic world and that outside to develop ever-new visual registers, continuously challenging and pushing the boundaries of phenomenology and ethics of the medium.

“The artist’s creative process entails in part keeping himself awake for several days at a time when he is photographing. This induces a trance-like state of consciousness, similar to that between waking and sleep. Focus and sensibility become distorted, colors and reality intertwined,” Peter Amby Gallery tells us, which has just presented the artist’s second solo exhibition.

Absalon Kirkeby (* 1983) is a Danish artist, who lives and works in Copenhagen. Kirkeby is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, the Goldsmiths College...

He intuitively finds unconventional perspectives of familiar motifs such as scenes in urban settings and landscapes.

He presents his series ‘Balance’ here on GoSee, albeit in a new composition. Also on the team were the models Philipp Milojevic, Sadia Coudberto and Emmanuel Amorin, who were styled by Davor Jelusic.
