‘Future Is Made of Courage’ - GOTHAER campaign with portraits by Robert GRISCHEK c/o MARKENFILM for Berger Bader Hermes

In his creative signature, Robert GRISCHEK c/o MARKENFILM photographed motifs for the GOTHAER campaign 'Future Is Made of Courage’ with the agency Berger Bader Hermes (BBH) from Munich.

It is intended, above all, for a young target audience. “Precisely the active ‘will to shape the future’ addressed in the campaign. Using a double exposure effect for extremely intensive colors, we present a symbolic projection of what is to be created and achieved. For which the departure, the will, and the path are more important than concrete results.” says BBH.

‘Trained in Vegas’ - Hyundai Motor and Jung von Matt Spree choose player’s paradise Vegas to launch the IONIQ 5 Robotaxi. Photos by Jules ESICK c/o MARKENFILM

Hyundai Motors and its global digital and creative agency partner, Jung von Matt SPREE, have unveiled a global print, OOH and DOOH campaign with a playful take on its self-driving robotaxi. “Trained in Vegas” hinges on Hyundai Motor’s choice of Las Vegas as the launch location for its IONIQ 5 robotaxi and leans into the city’s wild reputation to underscore its technical capabilities.

The campaign motifs were shot by photographer Jules ESICK c/o MARKENFILM, based in Berlin, and post-produced by RECOM Group Berlin. On-ground support was provided in Las Vegas by Fixer Films.

Shot from the point of view of the robotaxi, the campaign showcases bizarre scenarios on the streets of Vegas; from an Elvis impersonator cruising on a mini-scooter, to an alien on roller skates. Each motif is displayed alongside simple copy, emphasizing that, faced with unexpected situations, the robotaxi is smart enough to react accordingly. The campaign takes a humorous approach in contrast to typical communication on autonomous driving that’s usually filled with technical details and jargon.

According to Sarah Buggle, Creative Director at Jung von Matt SPREE, “The key highlight of the campaign is its style of communication; it rejects complex technical language that can leave people confused, disconnected, even mistrustful of autonomous vehicles, and instead offers a more relatable, real-world view of driverless tech.”

‘The right place for me’ - KAUFLAND campaign with portraits by Daniel Chassein c/o MARKENFILM for Freunde des Hauses

Daniel Chassein c/o MARKENFILM photographed the KAUFLAND campaign ‘Hier bin ich richtig’, or ‘the right place for me’. With celebrity support from Jan Josef Liefers, Olaf Schubert, Motsi Mabuse, Enie van de Meiklokjes, and Verona Pooth, Kaufland introduces its new claim. With the campaign, the company emphasizes that shoppers looking for a wide variety to choose from as well as high quality and freshness all at an affordable price have come to exactly the right place at Kaufland while putting the wants and needs of its customers front and center.

The spots were filmed by Markenfilm Hamburg at a Kaufland store in Berlin. Responsible for the campaign was the agency Freunde des Hauses. Following the kick-off with five celebrities in February, the second phase is planned to start this spring. It will be focused on everyday situations in which different people experience why Kaufland is the right place for them.

Marie Schuller c/o MARKENFILM is a Barcelona-based film director and photographer specializing in fashion, beauty and advertising content. Her photography work has been featured on the covers of Numero, L’Officiel and Elle, among others. Marie was raised in Germany and moved to England in 2004 where she studied filmmaking at the National Film and Television School before completing her MA in photography at the University of the Arts London. Staying in London, Marie spent six years as head of fashion at Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio, collaborating as an editor on all of Nick Knight’s own films and overseeing the pioneering fashion film output of SHOWstudio.com. Once she left SHOWstudio, Marie started exploring her own practice and quickly found her own style.

“It took years, and close to 100 films, to gain a conceptual understanding of what I actually like and believe in, and how I am able to communicate this with the medium of film. Back in those days, I had a technique I called ‘accidental editing’, where I took a clip and literally chopped it up by random. I’d then rearrange the bits to create a choppy edit that would jump back and forth and inject dynamic and energy into the edit. When I started thinking more intensely about the structure and cinematic flow of my own films, I had to seriously adjust my approach to editing. I made a rule for myself to never cut unless the cut was needed. How does this film actually benefit from this cut? Do I need to cut, or am I only doing it to hide the fact that my material doesn't have the energy or doesn’t hold the interest of its audience without a choppy edit?” Marie Schuller, photographer and director.

Marie continues : “This new approach led to a chain of pretty boring films at first, but then forced me to become a better director and seriously address my sense of storytelling. I moved away from heavy post production and became much more raw and intimate in my work. I started working with narrative and dialogue and made use of the elements that make film unique and differ from photography. I questioned every decision I took as a director: Is this idea original? Do my casting choices represent the world as I see it? Does this make sense? What am I trying to say? Most of what I am trying to do still fails, but with every film I do continue to become a better director.”
