'Sell me the truth for a change, stop making me feel like I’m missing out. Inspire me to be bored and get offline. ..' Ask RANKIN Anything! #honestyistrending
The renowned British photographer, publisher, and film director, Rankin is set to edit an upcoming issue of The Drum. Rankin, who has shot everyone from Kate Moss to Kendall Jenner to The Queen and whose titles include Dazed & Confused, AnOther Magazine and Hunger Magazine, plans to use his guest editorship to take on the idea of honesty in advertising.

His issue of the print edition of The Drum will be a rallying cry to the industry to: “Sell me the truth for a change, stop making me feel like I’m missing out. Inspire me to be bored and get offline. Seduce me with reality, not fantasy, or why even seduce me at all!
“Stop being scared of having an opinion and don’t fall for everything you read. Just because it’s easy, data is not your solution, it’s polarising the planet and by using it you are financing it!

“Find a way to make your products work better, last longer and stop changing your fucking power leads every five seconds! Sell me the idea of consuming less, there are enough things in the world, find a way to make that work for your business. Treat me like a person and add value to my life with things I actually need. If you’re just going to sell me crap, at least be honest about that and just make it funny and purlease don’t pretend to be worthy!” To complement and get into the spirit of his chosen theme, he is opening himself up “to some audience-generated content’ing”.

Rankin and The Drum are inviting readers to get involved with the issue themselves, by participating in a unique opportunity to ask Rankin anything they want. If you've got a searching question or a searing query for the man himself, email it to rankin@thedrum.com – or tweet @rankinphoto using the hashtag #honestyistrending. © // 1 file // show complete blog

RANKIN BRINGS THE ALL-NEW MAZDA 3 TO LIFE, WITH FEELING
The All-new Mazda3 made its global debut in LA and is now being celebrated with a unique portfolio of images by Rankin, one of the most influential photographers of our generation. The London-based photographer has been at the forefront of commercial and editorial innovation since he co-founded the magazine Dazed & Confused in 1991, bringing a unique aesthetic to fashion shoots and portraiture.

To celebrate the new Mazda3, Rankin brings his talents to unlocking the emotion of the new car, as described by chief engineer Mitsui Hitomi, “We don’t design to a spec, we design to a feeling”. It is also a story of pure driving pleasure and a challenging portrayal of true automotive beauty, a car that is as beautiful in motion as it is at rest. Talking about the shoot, Rankin said: “I wanted to not only show the essence of the Mazda3, but also evoke emotions with the viewer. I wanted to make the images really sensual so I approached the shoot in a completely different way. I have used light and created motion through actual camera movements, not retouching, that literally bring the car to life for the viewer.”

The brief was to capture the new Mazda3 and bring out the energy and feelings that the Takumi clay modeller at Mazda puts into the car when they craft each model by hand. Mazda is the only car manufacturer that still creates its car from the original full scale clay model. “Our design philosophy is called Kodo: Soul of Motion, with simple clarity of purpose,” says Jo Stenuit, Design Director Mazda Motor Europe, “Rankin has a wonderful way of capturing the car as art.” The end result captures the emotions of this important model, the first car in Mazda’s new generation of products. Each picture represents a significant emotion Rankin tried to capture within his work. “You can’t work with an artist and then constrain their art,” says Stenuit, “and this is about two brands coming together to create beautiful art.” © // 6 files // show complete blog

RANKIN presents Graham Fink : Duets (Annroy Gallery London, 20/07– 24/08/2018)
On the 19th July a new month long exhibition by multimedia artist and creative - Graham Fink will open at Rankin's Annroy Gallery in London. The new show entitled Rankin presents Graham Fink - Duets - Recalibrating The Forces of Duality.

Artist and creative Graham Fink has collaborated with Shanghai fashion designer Ziggy Chen on the new collection’s visual identity that references dualities within people and places. After living and working in Shanghai for seven years – where Chen’s studio is still based – Fink has now moved to London. Both artists are constantly inspired by the beguiling duality and changing nature of the city – east and west, tradition and modernity, past and present.

Chen creates unisex designs that are sartorially engineered for full anatomical comfort and conformance to the nuances of different individual bodies, whilst Fink, previously Chief Creative Officer of Ogilvy China, is a multimedia practitioner working in the fields of photography, film, painting, drawing and technology.

Rankin, who is hosting the exhibition in his gallery, says:‘I love new and interesting ideas in all forms of art, and I’m a fan boy of anyone who is doing something new and doing it well – it’s safe to say that Graham Fink and Ziggy Chen have both of these quotas in the bag. It’s conceptually nuanced, visually fascinating and I’m really proud to have this work in my gallery!’
